Performance
The heart of the latest Acura RDX is a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder engine, which churns out 272 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque for your next commute to Princeton, NJ. The engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, which comes with Sequential SportShift paddle shifters to give you the option of full manual control for a more exciting ride. And the engine itself includes idle stop technology, which promotes fuel efficiency by automatically turning off when at a complete stop and turning back on when you resume driving.
Although front-wheel drive is standard, Acura provides the option of getting the Super Handling All-Wheel Drive, or SH-AWD. This sophisticated drivetrain not only maximizes tire grip on slippery surfaces, but it also boosts high-performance dry-road handling. Go with the front-wheel-drive system if you want to get the max fuel economy of 22 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. However, at 21/27 mpg, you will not be too far off with the SH-AWD.
Exterior
Riding on 19-inch alloy wheels, the Acura RDX is a great-looking vehicle that makes liberal use of sharp edges and contoured sides to present an aggressive exterior. Jewel Eye headlights-which each incorporate seven LEDs in the middle to provide a super-bright beam-appear in the front and can automatically switch on and off in response to the amount of outdoor light. Heated side mirrors with turn-signal indicators flank the front doors, and on top is a panoramic moonroof. And LED-illuminated Dragon Tail taillights, a gloss-black rear spoiler, and a dual exhaust are placed in the rear. The A-Spec and Advance packages introduce LED fog lights for penetrating illumination, with the former swapping the 19-inch wheels with 20-inch ones.
Interior
With a passenger volume of 104 cubic feet, the new Acura RDX-which has two rows of seats-is one of the more spacious compact crossover SUVs out there. Included is a cargo volume of 29.5 cubic feet, which is typically measured between the rear seats and the liftgate. However, due to the rear seats' 60/40 split-folding design, you can expand the cargo space to 58.9 cubic feet. Leatherette-trimmed sport seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, front-seat heating, and front-seat 12-way power with power lumbar support are standard. For front-seat cooling and perforated leather seat trim with contrast stitching and piping, go for at the very least the A-Spec package. And with the Advance package, the RDX is enhanced with steering-wheel heating, rear-seat heating, and front-seat 16-way power that includes power thigh extension and side bolsters.
For comfort and convenience, the RDX, even at the base level, is remarkably equipped. You can expect amenities such as adaptive cruise control, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 7-inch color multi-function display, a smart key system with push-button engine start, Bluetooth wireless technology, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a garage-door opener, a Wi-Fi hotspot, Siri Eyes Free, Apple CarPlay smartphone integration, a nine-speaker stereo system, AM/FM radio, HD Radio, a single-disc CD player, two USB ports, SiriusXM radio service, and the 10.2-inch True Touchpad HD interface.
The Technology package introduces GPS-linked climate control, which involves using a solar sensor to measure the sun's intensity and automatically configures favorable climate-control settings. Also introduced at the Technology package level are voice recognition technology, a 12-speaker stereo system, a pair of rear USB ports, and a navigation system. A 16-speaker stereo system appears with the A-Spec package, and only the Advance package presents a 10.5-inch head-up display. A serene aura is enforced with Active Sound Control acoustic technology, regardless of trim or package.
