How to Prepare
While checking your car’s engine oil is an easy process, it requires a bit of forethought. For instance, the oil is going to be extremely hot immediately after you get home from a trip to John A. Roebling Memorial Park. To avoid any burns, we recommend that you wait a couple of hours prior to popping open the hood. When you park your car, truck, or SUV, be sure to station it on a flat surface so as to avoid any misleading readings due to the fluid pooling on one side of the vehicle. Also, having a rag or paper towel on hand will make it easier to see the quality of the liquid and avoid getting dirty along the way.
Checking
Now that your Acura MDX, RDX, or Integra is ready, check its oil by opening the hood up. Start by locating the dipstick, which is inserted near the engine area and is indicated by a brightly colored ring or knob. Pull it out with gentle force and wipe off any excess oil that is clinging to it using the rag that you procured. Next, examine the fluid for any dark coloration or particles floating within. These can indicate poor quality. After that, reinsert the dipstick into the oil pan and pull it back out. Look for the indicated fill line and see where your oil supply measures up. If it’s low, consider scheduling a visit to our Service Department before your next trip down Highway 206.
