Acura Announces End of TLX Production
2025 Acura TLX with Technology Package in Liquid Carbon Metallic and Acura Genuine Accessories shown above with available features.
Acura has decided to conclude the production of its TLX performance sedan following the 2025 model year. While many fans of the vehicle will consider this an occasion for sadness, our team at Precision Acura of Princeton is going to show you why it’s ultimately going to lead to better outcomes for consumers.
Why Acura Is Ending Production
The Acura TLX is ending production after the 2025 model year, ending a long-lasting line of sedans that stretches back to 1995. In that year, the predecessor TL was released and would go on to combine with the TLX for a total of 1.2 million units sold. The manufacturer says that the move is due to declining sales and a shifting market. These factors were confirmed in a statement released in July 2025, in which Acura noted that the decision reflects “the evolving needs of our customers and the changing landscape of the automotive industry.” After all, only 7,478 Acura TLX models were sold in the 2024 calendar year, a massive decline from the prior year’s 16,731 sales. For now, the luxury compact Acura Integra and Integra Type S will persist in the vehicle segment for this brand.
Acura Is Shifting to Meet Customer Desires
The drop in sales of the Acura TLX is clearly not the result of customers pulling back on buying from the brand. Instead, there has been a general shift in the vehicle market, and now consumers are preferring SUVs and crossovers over sedans. Another dimension of this situation comes from the fact that the brand is gearing up to make more of an impression in the electric vehicle market. Since the company is reallocating manufacturing capacity toward vehicles built on a new EV platform, the TLX no longer fits Acura’s strategic trajectory. This realignment will result in new premium options for customers by focusing on what they want from the Acura brand. 2025 Acura TLX Features
Even though the model has been discontinued, the 2025 Acura TLX is still an impressive model that makes for a distinctive last effort. The base trim features a standard 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with an output of 272 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft. of torque. An available 3.0L turbocharged 6-cylinder engine on the Type S trim raises the output to 355 horsepower and 354 lb.-ft. of torque for even more excitement while you’re on the road. This vehicle includes a standard FWD format, leading to an EPA-estimated 22/31/25 MPG city/hwy/combined fuel efficiency rating1. Those who want a ride with better traction and handling can turn to the available SH-AWD® format to get that experience. In any case, this model includes a standard 10-speed automatic transmission for fast and streamlined acceleration.
Why Is Acura Ending TLX Production?
- Acura is ending TLX production with the 2025 model year due to a market shift away from sedans and toward SUVs and crossovers and also to reallocate their manufacturing to electric vehicles.
